SSCFA is proud to report on ‘An Evening with SSCFA – Celebrating 90 Years’ which took place at The Lord Hill Hotel, Shrewsbury on Saturday March 16th 2013.
Past County players joined a host of sponsors, partners, supporters and past and present officers and their guests as the evening sold out out prior to advertising.
It was heart warming to see such support for schools and colleges football in Shropshire but disappointing that so many other supporters were unable to join us on the night as a result of the 230 seat capacity at the venue. A waiting list of 50 received prior to an announcement that the evening was to be a sell out were regrettably unable to join us and we are certain that we could have filled the venue at least twice over had we not made the announcement when we did.
We are extremely grateful to all attendees and especially to our ‘special guests’ who provided the entertainment by way of interviews and reminisces with our very own Ryan Jervis OBE. Joe Hart, Billy Jones, Boaz Myhill and Bernard McNally all rushed to us from their games earlier in the day and another ex-SSCFA star, Dave Edwards, was only prevented from attending by a serious foot injury sustained earlier that day. Their attendance and participation was the icing on the cake and ensured a night to remember for all.
The traditional Irish bingo, auction (with celebrity auctioneer David Brettell) and raffle included many excellent items and the 3-course menu was superb. A number of presentations were also made including the induction of Boaz Myhill and Bernard McNally to our ‘Hall of Fame’ and an award to Alan Jones made by Man City and England number 1 Joe Hart in appreciation of his forty plus years dedication to youth football in Shropshire.
Charity was also to benefit from the evening with a £300 donation and signed framed Shropshire shirt being presented to Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham in recognition of the support they have provided to two of our County Team Managers in recent times.
It is fitting that the final mention goes to the ‘organising committee’ who invested much time, effort and thought into making the event the huge success it undoubtedly was. We look forward to ‘An Evening with SSCFA – Celebrating 100 Years!
Thanks again to everyone for your support both on the night and towards the day-to-day running of SSCFA which allows us to continue to provide a number of hi quality footballing experiences to the boys and girls of all ages of Shropshire!
