U10 BOYS COUNTY SHIELD (7-a-side)

2016/2017 Season


Seventeen teams attended round 2 of the U10 boys county shield competition at the Shrewsbury Sports Village on Wednesday 25th January.  Eighteen teams had originally been invited but unfortunately there was a no show from Castle House Primary School.

The seventeen teams played in 6 groups of 3 with the winner of each group progressing to the knock-out stage.

Group winners included Greenfields, St. Georges Shrewsbury, St. Giles, Grange Park, Market Drayton and Redhill Schools.  In the quarter-finals Greenfields defeated St. Georges 1-0, St. Giles put out Grange Park by 3-0 and Market Drayton drew 0-0 with Redhill.

In the semi-finals St. Giles notched a 1-0 victory against Greenfields and Redhill beat a gallant Market Drayton team by 2 goals to nil.

May 6th will therefore see St. Giles and Redhill face each other in the final of the competition at the Greenhous Meadow.

Special mentions this week go to;

St. Giles Harry 'goal machine' Clayton, highly talented midfield skipper Joe Morris and skilled defender Tommy Clayton.

St. Lucias goalkeeper Will Barton who made several outstanding saves, Joe Buckingham who worked industriously in midfield and skipper Sol Battrick who led his team superbly.

For Minsterley's midfielder Bill Foreman who put in two dynamic performances.

Longden's defender Sam Finlow displayed poise and vision, both midfielders Thomas Monogham and Beau Mason who capped effective performances with great goals.

To Newtown's Konrad Piascki and Michael Barry who were outstanding throughout.

Finally to St. Georges Shrewsbury's sweeper Jay Bratby and striker Ted Griffin who were the pick of a fine squad.

St. Giles and Redhill Primary Schools to County Final.

Winner of SF1 & SF2 to County final at the Greenhous Meadow.  Date to be confirmed. 

The first session of the New Year saw the U10 boys County Cup round 1B teams play with 20 Schools competing for the place in Round 2.  13 teams will now join round 1A qualifiers Greenfields, Castle House, Mereside, St. Giles and Meole Brace on January 25th.

Longden on 7 points, Newtown on 6 and St. Lucias on 2 progressed from session 1 together with Whitchurch with 7 points, Harlescott on 4 and Market Drayton on 2.

The second session qualifiers were St. Winefrides with a maximum of 9 points, St. Georges Shrewsbury, Grange Park and Oakmeadow with 7 points, Minsterley on 6 points, Redhill with 5 points and St. Peters of Wem on 4 points.

Special mention goes to the following;

Newtown's Tom Dyson for his goal scoring record, speed merchant Ellis Ashton and solid defender Noah Dunn.

Bicton's great sporting attitude, Luis Dives-Turmo, faultless defender Seb Tudor and Jack Burston for his great work rate.

St. Georges Shrewsbury's super defender Jack Jones who scored a superb long-range goal and Joe Eaton who ran the show from midfield.

Much Wenlock's keeper George Sheperd who pulled out numerous breath taking goal saving efforts.

Mount Pleasant's Harvey Bahra for his outstanding work rate and Harrison Bailey for an excellent captains performance and excellently taken goal.

Longden's Reece LaCourse who scored a great individual goal and created numerous chances for his team mates, Thomas Monaghan who displayed great positional awareness and fine link up play.

Whitchurch's Harry Barber and Ashley Rimes for their defensive skills, while midfielder Dan Stuart's dynamic movement and pinpoint passing contributed considerably to his teams success.

St. Lucia's keeper Will who produced a catalogue of fine saves, defender Sol who organised well and tackled effectively and midfield dynamo Joe displaying pace, awareness and skill.

Prees's keeper Fred Heath who showed his usual great leadership and safe hands, ace defender Harry Barber who kept his cool under pressure and debut midfielder Oliver Barett who can be proud of his first outing for the School.

Finally, St. Winefrides Harry Oliver who was brave and decisive in goal, big brother Monty who proved a defensive barrier in front of Harry and midfielder Oli Hughes who displayed great energy and vision in midfield.

TOP TWO TEAMS IN EACH GROUP TO ROUND 2 ON JANUARY 25TH 2017 


Wednesday 30th November saw 10 teams play in two groups of the U10 boys county shield with the top 2 teams in each group progressing to round 2 on January 25th.

Greenfields topped group 1 with 10 points from a maximum 12 with Mereside pipping a fine Radbrook team by a single point.

An excellent St. Giles outfit headed group 2 with a maximum 12 points, scoring 15 goals and conceding just one.  St. Giles will be joined in round 2 by runners-up Meole Brace.  Both Meole Brace and Crowmoor gained 7 points but Meole went through on goal difference.

Individual performances meriting a special mention are as follows:

Longnor's regular nominee George Payton made several fantastic saves, midfielder Joe Burke displayed strength in attack and Ben Willis used space effectively.

Meole Brace's Jed Matthews excelled in goal whilst defender/ midfielder Roo Green displayed both skill and energy in abundance and Jayden Fisher enjoyed an evening's haul of 5 goals.

St. Giles skipper and midfielder Joe Morris proved an effective creator and finisher while phenomenal finisher Harry Clayton scored 10 of his teams 15 goals.

For Crowmoor, Joe Coates took to his role in goal like a duck to water, two footed defender Rio Dickson-Gbinogheme displayed strength and pace, while Jamie Buckley, Grandson of the legendary Steve Green notched 4 goals in as many games.

And finally, for Mereside's keeper Rowan who kept a clean sheet, defender Tom who proved cool under pressure and Charlie who capped a great midfield display with a superbly taken goal.

On a cold evening our spirits were warmed by the skill, energy and commitment of all 200+ youngsters.

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS:   

· All Schools are kindly asked to keep a check on the website at www.sscfa.co.uk as all report times, playing programmes and any cancellations will be announced here in the first instance.  This information will also be emailed directly to those schools that have entered the various weekly competitions.  

· The programme consists of the preliminary stages of both County and National (ESFA) competitions at 7-Aside.  In the ESFA competitions the eventual cup winners go forward to represent Shropshire at Regional level.  The County competitions produce the finalists for the end of season Primary School Finals. 

· All Schools are responsible for providing First Aid Cover 

· Players representing your School must wear shin pads and rubber based footwear only. 

· All Schools are asked to report to a SSCFA Official upon arrival at the Shrewsbury Sports Village. 

· Duration of matches will be subject to time available. 

· Schools are required to provide two suitable match balls(size 4) and must be clearly marked with the school name.  A full set of bibs. 

· Parental Photography permission of all children in attendance.  Kidz in Sport will be overseeing the photography this season at the Federation Centre in association with SSCFA.  

· Visitors other than Teachers, Parents and Supporters must contact the Schools Office for permission to attend.
