Shrewsbury School U18’s 1-3 Shropshire U16’s
Wednesday 27th September

In a heavy downpour, but excellent playing conditions, Shropshire U16’s managed to beat Shrewsbury Schools U18 team by 3 goals to 1.

After a slow start Shropshire began to control the ball and dictate the play. They were able to rotate the ball from side to side with speed, causing gaps in the Shrewsbury defence. From this, Ryan Knott was fouled towards the left hand side of the Shrewsbury by-line. Alex Cadman, who captained the side on the day, managed to find Cian Fenlon unmarked in the 6-yard box with a lovely drilled cross. Using the outside of his foot, Cian expertly guided the ball over the Shrewsbury goal keeper before glancing the cross bar on its way in. 1-0 Shropshire.

Shrewsbury school caught Shropshire on the break with some nice play before Tom Delamere pulled off a strong handed save to deny Shrewsbury School the equaliser. Apart from this opportunity, Shropshire continued to cause Shrewsbury problems. Cian hit the post from just inside the area, before the Shrewsbury keeper pulled off a great double save to deny Alex Cadman from range and Kyle Roberts on the rebound.

Against the run of play, Shrewsbury managed to snatch an equaliser from a corner on the stroke of half time. Some miscommunication and slack marking led to a free header inside the 6-yard box.

HT: 1-1

Shropshire started the second half as they had played for most of the first half; on the front foot. They kept the ball for long periods of possession and began creating more chances. It was a matter of time before the second goal came, courtesy of a Cian Fenlon through ball, that was neatly finished off by a drilled shot in the bottom corner by Alex Cadman.

The third goal came courtesy of a great build of up from back to front. Zac Williams played the ball in to midfield from defence before carrying on his run. Some neat interchanges saw Zac through on goal with only the keeper to beat. Zac rounded the Shrewsbury keeper only to be brought down before putting the ball in the net. Cian Fenlon stepped up and coolly converted the penalty in to the top left hand corner.
